Combining an accessible and engaging style with a solid academic background, Chartered Psychologist Dr Gary Wood regularly contributes psychological insights, expert analysis and coaching tips to the press, radio and television, from light entertainment to serious debate, to news features and media campaigns. He is currently agony uncle for more! magazine.

Widely cited in the press, quotations from Gary have appeared in countless newspapers and magazines, including The Guardian, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, The Observer, Top Sante, and Cosmopolitan. He has also written articles, features and quizzes for a range of publications including eve magazine,more! magazine, The Times Higher Education Supplement and academic publications such as The British Medical Journal and The Psychologist. He is the author of the coaching and goal-setting book Don’t Wait For Your Ship To Come In. . . Swim Out To Meet It! which has been translated into several languages (including French, Korean, Arabic and Czech).

Gary has featured on local, national and international radio and his trademark down-to-earth, warmth and humour have made him a regular and lively panellist on BBC Five Live’s The Late Show and resident, ‘no holes barred’, sex and relationships psychologist on Radio BRMB’s The Sex Factor.He has even appeared on BBC Radio Four’s Woman’s Hour. Bringing together broadcasting and research skills, Gary has fronted a number of media campaigns, including several for the Learning and Skills Council to encourage adults back into education. Other campaigns have included Powergen (energy saving initiatives); American Airlines (importance of personal space) and first direct (importance of manners).

As well expert analysis in local and national news stories, notable TV appearances include debate shows such as The Big Questions and Sunday Morning Live , life change shows such as Money Spinners and Trisha Goddard, and popular culture such as Big Brother’s Little Brother. Gary also acts as a consultant for the development of radio and TV programmes. He co-created and named BRMB’s long running radio show The Sanctuary. He is also, periodically, a producer and presenter at South Birmingham Community Radio.
